Located at 421 N Atlantic Blvd Ste 101, Ocean Island provides a cozy atmosphere with a few small tables for dining in, but most customers opt for take-out due to the constant foot traffic. The menu boasts an impressive selection of dim sum, pastries, congees, noodle soups, and rice plates, catering to a diverse range of tastes.
Customers rave about the quality of the food, with favorites including the Boa Luo Bao (Pineapple Bun), Pork Ribs Rice Plate, siu mai, char siu steam bao, and turnip cake. The attention to detail in the dishes, from the crispiness of the fried items to the flakiness of the pastries, sets Ocean Island apart from other dim sum spots in the area.
While parking may be a challenge during peak hours, the flavorful offerings at Ocean Island make it worth the visit. Whether you're a dim sum aficionado or simply looking for a tasty meal, Ocean Island delivers on both quality and value. Consider stopping by this little-known eatery for your next dim sum fix and experience the flavors that make it a local favorite.

For take-out dim sum they are surprisingly good, with an even more surprising menu in terms of the spread that, even mid-day, is still pretty solid. It's absolutely a take-out dive despite the presence of a few little tables, parking lot does get busy, and while they do take credit cards I saw most paying with cash. The enclosed glass counter is full of pineapple buns, egg rolls, lo bac guo (turnip cake), cheung fun (both shrimp and beef), plus a smaller than expected but still quite well-stocked area of fresh steamed items. Har gow, shu mai, lo mai gai, ngau paak yip (ginger beef tripe), and all the goodies I would expect. There is a bit of a wait as orders are packed into foam boxes and queued up to pay, but it's not bad, and you have to admire how well they understand organization. Pricing is pretty reasonable too.

I was a big fan of this location when it was the old 'Yum Cha Cafe,' and when I was in the area, I learned it's now, 'Ocean Island.' As much as I miss the previous establishment, Ocean Island does have a good selection of dim sum, pastries, and your basic congees (jook), noodle soups, and rice plates. There's like three tables inside if you want to eat there, but with the constant foot traffic, you may just to take your food to-go (like everyone else). It really helps if you speak Mandarin or Cantonese here - the ladies are working fast and there's kind of a line and also kind of none lol. I was trying to place an order and they didn't hear me for some reason, then this kind lady who spoke Mandarin told them I wanted to place an order (so nice!) and I did just that. I only came here to try their Boa Luo Bao (Pineapple Bun) and their Pork Ribs Rice Plate, which turned out really good on everything. The dim sum also looked good, but I feel like the pastries and plate meals might be better value. Even though it's a to-go shop, the prices are still slightly steep for dim sum - about $5-$7 per dish or so...that definitely adds up! Quality of food is good though. Parking here is a hit or miss in the lot, depending on the day you go there. It shares a parking lot with other shops and the giant supermarket, so parking space can come sparingly. But street parking is available if it's really packed. But yeah if you're in the area, worth stopping in and get your dim sum fix.

A friend stumbled on this place on the way to the market and recommended it to me. We were out and about and wanted late dim sum so we decided to try this place out. You order at the counter. Just be careful because if you point at something and ask what it is, the server is more apt to put it in a take out box. As for the dim sum, the siu mai was ok..mostly pork and didn't detect any shrimp. The char siu steam bao's were very good as well as these triangle shaped wor tip/fried dumplings. The turnip cake was also good and the rice wrapped chicken was too. Definitely an upgrade over Dim Sum Express and Lucky 1. I'll be back.

I am so glad I came across this place. It is hidden gem right next to the GW Supermarket. They have a sign showing their tiny store but if you don't walk in that direction, you would probably miss it. I never seen a more comprehensive dim sum place than this one. It's tiny but packed with all the dim sums you can think so. The only thing I see they don't have is the Silver Tail Noodles. They have picture menu of all their dim sum made fresh daily. One interesting thing is that they like to sell their dim sum by threes. I was confused when I ordered Pineapple bun and I saw the clerk packing me three. So be sure to let them know you only want one. The best items they have are the Steamed White Sugar Rice Cakes and the Malai Goh which is the best I've had in LA. Their Pineapple buns were a bit hard and dry. The sugar topping also wasn't that great. Their egg custards could be better. I would come back to try the rest of their dim sums but those were my favorites so far. The only really bad thing about this place is that they close early at 7:30pm and they're closed on Tuesdays.

Cash and card accepted with no additional fees, Visa and Master cards. I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of food they have for a to-go dim sum spot. So good we got it TWICE in the same week. You need to give their deep fried items a try. None of them are soggy and dripping with grease like other places are. All their baked buns the dough used for it seem to be the same for all of them- soft, great texture, fluffy, moist. Rice roll batter has a great texture. 24. Pan Fried Leek Dumpling- very good, filled with ground pork mixed in with leek. There was a crisp to the pan fried sides (both sides). 30. Sesame Ball- filling filled to the brim, very crispy and amazing texture. Filled with red bean filling, if you prefer the lotus kind I would steer away. Not too sweet. Gao Choi Gao (11. Shrimp w/ Green Leek Dumpling)- filling was great, the wrapper fell apart before we got home to eat. Still very good! Chashu Cheung Fun (41. BBQ Pork Rice Roll)- surprisingly had green onions and cilantro, which I loved! Added so much depth. Usually restaurants only fill it with the bbq pork and no greens. Dan Tat (37. Egg Custard Tarts)- pastry shell was nice and flaky. Custard wasn't too sweet or dense.

It's a no frills dim sum place with bbq pork and duck. It was my first time here and I just wanted two items. I only got one of the two items I asked for. My want was this sweet rice cake which I took a picture of the menu item to show the lady behind the counter. The second item I was asking the lady next to me if she knew the Chinese name of the item. She didn't and I kinda remember how to pronounce it but I wasn't watching the lady put it into my box. The item I wanted was the sausage in a bun called "lop churn gǔn" anyways I'll get it next time when I ask someone else to pickup for me. Whatever I got in its place was pretty tasty. There were possibly a couple of table's against the wall but mainly everyone was ordering to go.

CASH ONLY. Craved for an early dim sum and we stumbled at this place. I was the co-pilot and searched for "along the way dim sum". I did not do a lot of research as we are getting close to the place I just trust Yelp's stars. so here we were. We thought we could eat dine-in - yes we did- but I don't recommend it. This place is good for you to go. No one will serve and help - and the place is small. Also, this is one of the most stressful experiences I had in ordering! you have to say what u want fast because they are all scrambling fast, I do not know all the names of the food, I just point at it and ugh I just felt so rushed. So thankful to the guy customer who helped us say what we want. Anyway, parking is a lot. There's no restroom, do not come on a rush hour I guess. Be prepared. Our orders cost us about $40ish- check my pics :) and 1 bottled water included. I will still come back if we ever happen to pass by this place because the SIOMAI and BAKED PORK BUNS are undeniably GOOD but next time I come, I know the drill and will not be surprised. Just Siomai and pork buns that's it! Bye!

I was craving some dim sum in the early morning of Thanksgiving so I yelped a place and Ocean Island popped up and it had good reviews so I checked it out. Lo and behold...... I'm always in this plaza for GW market. It's so easy to miss since is so small. Anyways, it was popping and I didn't want to eat toooo much before thanksgiving dinner, so i ordered the BBQ rice noodle and some deep fried dumplings and can't forge the chicken feet! So delicious, came here twice in a week. My new favorite take out dim sum place.
